How It Works

There are terms that some people make up, and others that actually have meaning in the fitness world.   So, if you find yourself getting bogged down with minutiae, or over-analyzing some aspect of exercise or nutrition you can always come back to this one concept.

You’ll hear me mention this concept over and over again.

Synergy.

Synergy, means by definition: The interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.

The concept of Synergy will always keep you grounded, and will serve as a filter when you are exposed to fitness and nutrition offerings.

What does this mean?  It means that exercise alone is not enough to bring about a long term physical change, nor is diet or aerobic exercise alone.

It means that fish oil, interval training, meal frequency, sets and reps, water intake, macronutrients…none of these are answers in and of themselves. However, when we begin to properly combine these elements is when “it starts to work”.

So the next time you hear:

“Just stop eating carbs”

“My friend jogs five miles a day and it worked for her”

“These fat-burning pills are what you need”

You know that you’re hearing faulty advise. At the heart of any program you should find these 3 elements.  If one is missing, results will elude you.

  1. Resistance Training to support muscle.
  2. Moderate Aerobic Exercise.
  3. Nutritional Strategies that support the goal.

You’ll find that Synergy is at the heart of everything I do.  Every program not matter how basic or advanced still holds true to these principles.
